Starry Eyed...

Just thought I would share a bit of sunshine yellow with you in the shape of this float-ilicious dress from Dolce & Gabbana's A/W 2011-12 collection. Loving the movement and the supersize shapes this dress creates {just add wind machine!}  Thought the star print and sunflower shade would put a smile on anyone's face, even on a manic Monday!

Born this day - Coco Chanel...

Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel, 19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971.  A fashion visionary.  My favourite brand logo in the world, stunning simplicity with the interlinked double c's. The creator of the only perfume I wear, Chanel no.5 {well if it's good enough for Marilyn to wear in bed}. So many famous quotes to choose from but thought I would share my favourite.  It also happens to be have been made into a fabulous print by Miss R.

{shameless self promotion / product placement - but it's ok if your sis does it!}

Very Violet...

Violet.  Not only do I love the scent and intense purple colour of these beautiful flowers, it is also near the top of my list of baby names for when I get all grown up and maybe / hopefully have alittle girl one day {need to bag a man first}.  I am also pretty partial to a Violet infused glass of sparkling / macaroon / chocolate.  Penhaligon's Violetta is also a gorgeous embodiment of of this flower, the bottle is so pretty too. Anyway, I digress.  Question? What do you get when you cross seriously sexy Lara Stone with a bed of violets?  The answer = Tom Ford's ad campaign for his new scent 'Violet Blonde'.  So like myself, monsieur Ford is also very into Violet as well as Ricardo Tisci who adorned an assortment of his A/W 2011 collection for Givenchy with this variety of flower, I think they could be THE fleur of the forthcoming season.

...also thought I would throw in a bit of vintage Courtney Love into this post with Hole's video 'Violet' {tenuous link I know!} below - enjoy!

Grey-day...

So, this time last year Miss R decided she was no longer cool with being my colourist , I vowed to stop bleaching my hair white blond and so I kissed goodbye to my hair-do homage to Miss Monroe that I had been rocking with various rinses {baby blue, lilac, pale pink etc} for several years.  When you are giving yourself an impromptu hair cut everytime you brush your hair, it's time to give your hair a break {quite literally}!  So since banning the bleach I have managed to get through the dark root/light ends dilemna with a combo of red and hot pink semi permanent rinses on the bleach.  I have, on several occassions been complemented on my coiffure, obviously being mistaken for the hot hair trend of the summer; dip-dyed ends!  If only they knew that my hair is in a total hurry up and grow limbo-land stage, and guess what other discovery I have made growing out my natural color for the first time since I was like 15?  I am going grey - eek!!!  Unlike my lush friend Tamsin who has a shock of grey at the front of her hair that looks so cool in a 'yes, I was struck by lightning kind of way'.  All in one place not appearing sporadically all over her head like myself.  So what is a girl to do, if Miss R is to be listened to then tweezers are the only answer - remove imediately and keep checking back regularly.  However Mummy Bijoux has said that is not a good idea - it will just thin your hair out.  So what is a grey girl to do?  Well look below for inspiration that is what, and worship at the grey hair alter that is Miss Kristen McMenamy and her rapunzlesque long waves...

You and I...

With snippets leaked on the internet early, the official release was meant to be tomorrow, La Gaga has released the much anticipated fourth video from her Born this Way album, 'You and I' which was shot in Nebraska.  As ever featuring in many guises, my favourite being a naturally made up Lady Gaga serenading her male alter ego Joe Calderone whilst he smokes and snarls on top of her piano and Gaga splashing around in a mermaid-size sardine can as a bath {love} - enjoy!

Saturday Supper Club...

On Saturday Miss R and myself surprised our gorgeous friend Aimee with a little birthday inspired supper club chez Miss J.  Balloons, check.  Birthday banner, check. Food flags, check.  Everything came together really well, total team twin-star effort! I made a box of my new florentine-esque chocolates {sour cherry, toasted flaked almonds & sea salt as well as organic fig, toasted pistachio & sea salt} for the birthday girl which seemed to go down well. I wrapped a couple up for Miss R to take away, she is my chief taster after all! A party, even a very small intimate affair is not a birthday party without a party bag {see candy stripe parcel below}.  Our spread of vegetarian delights included egg mayo {mine and Miss R's favourite thing in the world, with eggs courtesy of my darling intern's chickens} on charcoal crackers with cress and a new invention of mine; a beetroot, carrot and mixed toasted seed slaw.  Instead of birthday cake, dessert was pistachio gelato, dark chocolate dipped strawberries and Miss R's incredible pistachio brittle which has to be tasted to be believed, it could literally elevate any ice cream flavour, oh and a couple of candles to make a wish!

 ...oh yes, Mr B found a new happy place lying on my bed!

Get Knotted - Shibari style...

My fave shoot from the 'Super Natural' issue of LOVE magazine, A/W 2011 is without doubt the underwater extravaganza that is the mammouth 42 page 'What Lies Beneath' spread.  Shot by Mert and Marcus, with Katie Grand at the helm of art direction/styling and starring {count them} 11 models including la Lara Stone, Mariacarla Boscono, Kristen McMenamy and Guinevere Van Seenus The images truly are breathtaking.  Not happy with just an etheral underwater Ophelia-esque floating feel, Kristen and Guinevere are tied up in ropes a la the Japanese art of Shibari, so f*cking cool.  Look at Kristen's amazing super long grey locks looking all mermaid magnificent...

...and so the tied-up trend continues in editorial with Tom Munro also taking inspiration {no doubt} from Nobuyoshi Araki's signature style in Attache Moi! from Numero #125 August 2011...
'Tokyo Comedy Series' 1991 by Nobuyoshi Araki {below}
...oh and finally it would be rude not to share an Archive piece from Miss R which was featured in 125 magazines Japanese extravaganza back in 2007!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream...

...or maybe Gelato, my current 'summer' obsession!  With unexpected ice-cream placement, Lindsey Wixson takes one in the eye in one of the six iD covers for the pre-fall 'The Pick Me Up' issue shot by Terry Richardson, fun, sexy but what a waste of chocolate ice cream!

I was recently in NY and went to Amorino, an AMAZE Italian gelato parlour where you can {if you would like} choose all of their 22 flavours in one sitting!  I opted for three; dark chocolate, pistachio and for my more virtuous side raspberry sorbet {please excuse my hideous chipped mani}.  It was delicious. If you order a cone {see below} instead of a cup then your ice is served in the shape of a chrysanthemum, each petal could even be a different flavour if you so wish, so cute! Oh and guess what, after perusing their website, I have just discovered they have a branch in London which I didn't know about, Miss R I think we need to take a visit.
