Looks 39, 42 and 43 of Ricardo Tisci's Fall 2012 offering for Givenchy were my favourites of the collection. Ultra fine spaghetti strap cocktail nighties with black lace overlay detail on a blocked palette of sky blue, tangerine and cinched with a royal purple belt. Goth glammed up or made evening appropriate {outside the boudoir} with lashings of leather; equestrian-esque loose fit knee high boots, full sleeve gloves, choker, dark lips and centre parted hair.

Last Thursday I enjoyed drinks, dinner and burlesque beauties in a low lit, stylish setting at Proud Camden's new Cabaret club. Yes Cabaret in Camden, a novel idea but one that I think has the potential to do very well. The south gallery, formerly Proud Kitchen, has been transformed into a ruby red den with chinoiserie silk ceilings and lamps, gilt birdcages, black leather banquette booths, corset clad waitresses and live music and glamourous entertainment to accompany your supper...

...A four part show complete with atmosphere inducing live singer as we arrived and during each interval, compere {comedienne and cabaret extraodinaire} Vicious Delicious who was all the more hilarious when she dropped her faux french accent and applied her acerbic wit on unexpected members of the audience and five different showgirls with multiple routines/costume changes! Cocktails and canapes on arrival and a main course of Butternut Squash and Feta Risotto with Watercress and Parmesan Crisps which was delicious and a dessert of Chocolate Fondant - what's not to love? Served by ostrich feather festooned waitresses who tottered around in stockings, suspenders and high heels navigating the packed space like pros as well as avoiding additional high heel risks of glitter, feathers, petals and champagne as the performances played out. With international burlesque acts Betsy Rose, Annette Bette Kellow, Coco Deville, and my personal fave Banbury Cross {you know I have a soft spot for all things Marilyn - she moonlights as an impersonator} taking the stage. As the show went on the performances got a little darker with latex lover Marnie Scarlet ending the evening with an altogether more surreal, fetish take on Cabaret - go see for yourself! http://www.proudcamden.com/kitchen

Moschino Cheap & Chic LFW Debut - 'Make up Your Life!'...

...yesterday I was lucky enough to attend Moschino Cheap & Chic's first ever show at LFW and put on a show they did. Housed at a beautiful building on Portland Place, on arrival I was greeted by the gorgeous Miss S, a glass on champagne was placed in my hand and I made my way into a room that had been decorated with an array of beautiful blooms, neon lips and several movie star make-up mirror areas where models were getting preened for the show. Seated in director's chairs that bared the collection's fun-pun slogan 'Make up your Life' on the back or 'Smile, Talk, Kiss, Drink, Laugh, Eat' this was a lovely touch giving the attendees a feeling of being backstage. The cornicing and chandeliers on the ground floor were sensational too...

...As we made our way into the black and white chequerboard tiled hallway a rainbow neon installation echoed the 'Smile, Laugh, Talk, Drink, Shout, Eat, Kiss' of the chairs - very cool. And up the sweeping staircase to the 1st floor and the intimate catwalk complete with macaroon shade seating and more exquisite chandeliers and don't get me started about the baby blue walls with white baroque detailing. I want to live in a house like this {one can but dream}. The show soundtrack was provided by a live acoustic performance from Lianne La Havas of 'Forget'. Dressed in pieces from the collection we were about to see - what a lovely surprise! Alexa Chung was FROW wearing a beaut pair of J W Anderson paisley print pants, as well as a host of super stylists, editors and bloggers...

...and onto the show, a playful winter pastel palette reigned with a particular leaning towards nude shades, makeup references as print protagonist, patchwork panel lace, a textural fabric mix of rainbow furs, crochet, maxi sequin pailettes and fun liquorice allsort-esque make up prints. Glitter pouts / smiles and bouffant beehives completed the modern fifties feeling models beauty look. For me this is a brand that is so suited to showing in London, with it's kooky, quirky cool - let's hope they are here to stay...

I love a bargain and so I was pretty pleased when I spied these Dries Van Noten S/S 2011 beauties in the Selfridges January sale. I debuted them on thursday night when I went to Purl {again - it's becoming my new favourite place for cocktails} in Marylebone. Not the most sensible of footwear choices when London has seen temperatures plummeting to minus degrees but hey don't they look pretty and they tap into the holographic trend seen on the S/S 2012 catwalks too.

Who you calling a Muppet...?

Last night Miss B and I went to the Soho Hotel in London for a private screening of the upcoming Muppets movie {released in the UK on February 10th} and to have a closer look at the multitude of fashion collabo's that are underway to celebrate the launch. I personally cannot wait for Miss Piggy to attend the premiere in London in a custom made Giles gown, rumour has it that she will be walking the red carpet accompanied by the designer himself. Not necessarily a film I would have gone to the cinema to see, it certainly made me smile with it's somewhat cheesy songs / dance routines and wholesome be good to each other message. I was particularly taken by the bunch of kermit balloons {you know how I love a helium balloon} in the foyer and was a little bit gutted, ok massively that they were just for the kids! In terms of the collaborations I am really loving the Miss Piggy for MAC artwork, she certainly knows how to work a wig change in the movie.

The stealth black 'paper' lunch bags are such a simple idea that becomes kind of genius in their clever execution. No doubt they are not actually made from paper and are far more durable and I love the luxe newspaper wallet come bag - the stylish way to carry your broadsheet.

On a dash round the Harrods shoe sale for Miss R before she flew out to Australia for Mr R's sisters wedding I spotted these Mary Jane beauties from Miu Miu. Perfect shoes for my bride-to-be perhaps, we are meeting on Wednesday night when I will be removing the sleeves of her Mother's handmade dress - eek! I know Miss K doesn't want a super high heel and so I think this mid block heel may well be a perfect height and I love the idea of these sparkly sequin shoes hiding under the dress until she maybe hits the dance floor in the evening.

Cocktail Detox? - The Experimental Cocktail Club...

Last night I visited The Experimental Cocktail Club {http://experimentalcocktailclublondon.com/} on Gerrard Street, W1. A speakeasy-come-prohibition-style secret drinking den in the heart of bustling China Town. Entering through a scruffy unmarked black door {no.13} with no signage and straight upstairs to a mirrored ceiling first floor bar complete with navy on black leopard carpet throughout we grabbed a couple of stools at the bar and looked over the cocktail menu. I usually avoid going out during my annual January detox but actually really enjoyed the experience, even though it only got as crazy as a fresh grapefruit juice for me! The cocktail list here includes some unusual ingredients including lavender infused gin and purple salt, as well as their vintage cocktail selection with prices from £120-£250 per cocktail {no that isn't a typo} which blend rare gins, vermouths and bourbons from the 1950s-1970s. The glassware itself is simply gorgeous, a pleasure to drink from. Up to the second floor which has a piano set into the bar, a really lovely idea although I was disappointed to find out it apparently doesn't actually play which is a shame. The toilets on the third floor have been beautifully decorated with flamingo wallpaper, quilted tiles and porcelain teapot lights which I loved! I think Purl in Marylebone still has it over ECC for me and whilst we are on the subject of speakeasy style bars in Londres, I am looking forward to visiting 69 Colebrooke Row and The Worship Street Whistling Shop anytime from 1st Feb!

Chanel. The interlinked double CC's is my all time favourite logo ever {yes ever}. So simple, yet so chic, timeless and elegant - much like Coco herself. Years ago I discovered No 5 and have never looked back, it is my signature scent and I LOVE it. I also seem to go through quite ALOT of it. Those 100ml bottles don't last that long with me {much to Miss R's - 'oh god she has been at the bottle again' when we meet up for a night out}. As much as I love the scent, with Chanel it is the whole experience I enjoy, the classic crystal stopper bottle and understated white label - pure packaging porn.

I have an imaginary wishlist of things that I would like to add to my collection of curiosities/clothing that I update occasionally. I only include items I know are investment buys and that I will love forever, I am not really into throw away fashion, I have always been of the mindset that I would prefer fewer items but that they are beautifully made, quality pieces. And so amoungst the Givenchy rottweiller mens sweat and archive Prada lipstick print pleated skirt is the holy grail of object d'art. The Chanel factice. Or to be more precise x2 {it's a twin thing} factice's, so that I can use them as book ends - how cool would that look?....Or maybe I would just like to recreate my very own Chanel No 5 perfume ad, I think I like the idea of drinking it through a straw like Amber above though - ok?!

...I popped into Oxford Street this morning {not as early as planned - oh the last lye in of the festive season} and made it until about 1pm before I had to escape far from the madding crowds. I had a couple of birthday gifts to buy and wanted to hit the shoe sales at Liberty and Selfridges. I only made it to Liberty and en route just loved the sale sign in COS. Simple. Understated {much like the store/clothing itself} and fluoro orange against a neutral backdrop - what is not to love. I always enjoy Selfridges tongue in cheek sale slogans especially this years 'good things come to those who wait'. However COS proves sale signs clearly can be done in a chic, stylish way, tagline and all.

...not since the late 90s/early 00s has the skirt over trouser idea been reworked by major designers in such a cool way. Yes, I remember wearing my skirt over my jeans or trousers when I started my fashion degree, looking back it wasn't the best look but Spring 2012 reincarnations of this idea are something altogether more considered and cooler as the skirt part is actually grown onto the pant. Part peplum, part half skirt, derriere detractor call it what you will {and am sure some sort of hideous hybrid word will appear} but don't ignore this new shape for spring. My fave Christmas drinks this year have to be the experimental cocktails at basement bar Purl in Marylebone http://www.purl-london.com/. Think part NY speakeasy part Heston Blumental {out of the kitchen and behind the bar} and you are along the right lines. I have been wanting to go here for ages and it totally didn't disappoint. Mr Hyde's Fixer Upper has to be the most exciting cocktail I have ever experienced, in a single serve ice bucket and complete with atmosphere inducing liquid nitrogen dry ice, the rum, homemade cola and orange bitters is served in a science-lab style wax sealed bottle that you drink in two parts to allow the smokiness to intensify the liqour. Resembling a pink angel delight dessert the cocktail below is in actual fact a pomegranate foam on top of a sublime gin based cocktail - delicious and dangerously strong, they certainly packed a festive kick!

Homemade 'Bijoux' Christmas Crackers...

Every year Miss R and I have certain things we bring home to the Shiers family Christmas. Miss R, a very talented cook is in charge of Christmas dinner and myself, table dressing and dessert. I have made Christmas crackers for the last couple of years. Last year were a Ferrero Rocher filled vintage music paper wrapped affair with festive headpieces and sparkler spiked clementines. This year I made them from scratch using a template from a cracker making kit and sheets of thick paper printed with Miss R's 'I Scream, You Scream' print and filled them with chocolates, sparklers and cocktail umbrella's {which of course all ended up in my hair after several glasses of Prosecco on Boxing Day}.

I adore Selfridges London Christmas window displays this year. They are simply stunning. Starting at the amazing Mark Quinn snow globe-esque orchid in the corner window and walking to the other end of the store I took in all of the winter white wonder in every window, taking a tonne of photos, the 'edit' {there are quite a few} below are my absolute faves. If you live in London go see in person, the attention to detail and sheer amount of vintage paper concertina bells and balls is immense. It really got me inspired and even though I hadn't planned on doing any decorating in my little flat this year, I am now going to dig out my own white paper concertina bells and arrange over my white chesterfield. I will post a photo when I am done.

Great Expectations for BBC1's Great Expectations...

As well as excitement for the return of Absolutely Fabulous on Christmas day I am also really looking forward to seeing the BBC's three part adaption of Charles Dickens novel 'Great Expectations'. The cast includes Ray Winston as escaped convict Magwitch, Gillian Anderson totally transformed as a younger than expected Miss Havisham, David Sucett as Jaggers and Douglas Booth as the older Pip. I loved this book at school and can't wait to see what twists Sarah Phelp's has up her sleeve for it and what parts of the 700 page original will have been omitted to squeeze into 3x 1 hour programs which will air from the 27th - 29th December, perfectly placed between Christmas and New Year. Dressing Up Christmas...

Every year, usually about this time in December I begin to panic that I haven't started making/even decided what my annual dressing up outfit for my DIY christmas card is going to be. This year is no different {all the good intentions and all that}. Although I kind of know what idea I will be going with for 2011 and that Bailey is going to make his debut appearance with a small cameo, it is still already December 7th and no actual progress has been made outfit wise. Must. Try. Harder {in 2012}. The tradition started a few years ago when bored of the uninspiring offerings instore {excluding Miss R's cards obviously} I decided to bring my love of all things fancy dress/dressing up and Christmas together. Past years have included 'Little Drummer Girl / Toy Soldieress' {2010}, 'Leopard Rudolf' {2009} and 'Christmas Present' {2008}. Miss R shoots and I pose. Adding Mr B into the mix will no doubt add a special something to this years Christmas greeting. I will post a photo soon but until then enjoy a taster of years gone by below...

Christmas TV - you either love it or hate it, have certain Christmas specials you just won't miss and some that leave you feeling cold. I am not a massive TV watcher {I don't have a TV in my flat} and watch the things I am really interested in seeing on catch up. However I will definitely be hot footing it to Miss R's sizable flat screen in a couple of weeks for 'This is England '88'. Shane Meadows is back with what he is describing as 'kind of like a very brutal Nativity play… I just remember Christmas being shit… I wanted to make a sort of broken Nativity play, but there’s a real positive outcome, I hope." It picks up from where we left Lol, Woody, Shaun et al in 86', 18 months on. I literally cannot wait, I loved the original film and then the four part series last year. Screening on three consecutive nights starting on December 13th at 10pm on Channel 4. So if you have Christmas party plans that week then get your tv's set to record what I am sure will be an amaze anti establishment Christmas special. Until then here is the trailer - enjoy!

Thanksgiving Dessert - Food Finish Gilded Toasted Pecan Flourless Chocolate Cake

Marry Me? - S/S 2012 The season of the bride...

If this summer was the year of the royal wedding with Kate vs Kate fever sweeping the nation {one real royal and one fashion royalty} then it seems designers have been heavily influenced by their nuptials as the bride became muse at many S/S 2012 catwalks. Comme des Garcons dedicated her whole show to a couturesque, veiled, all white theme, be it in her signature more conceptual style. Raf Simons ended his show at Jil Sander with four minimalist bridal dresses {yes four}. I myself am pretty excited by the wealth of inspiration such looks have brought me for the next wedding project I have taken on. Miss K, a friend of Miss R's from University is getting married next year and I will be reworking her Mum's wedding dress for her to walk down the aisle in. Her's is such a poignant story that I had to hold back tears when she briefly explained that she had sadly lost her Mum when she was alot younger and that her Nana whom she is incredibly close to had become like her 2nd Mum. Her Nana and Mum had made the wedding dress together and Miss K wishes to wear it on her special day, her Mum will be there in spirit with her as she enjoys this magical day in her life. It is such a touching gesture, when she walked out in her Mum's dress I was overcome with how beautiful she looked and the exquisite cut and proportions of the dress, but mostly by how it fits her like a glove - like it was actually made for her figure. She must be exactly the same size as her Mum when she got married to her Dad all those years ago. I can't say too much about the actual design of the dress but what I will say is it is going to be an amazing piece to work on as it has been so gorgeously hand crafted and I am incredibly exited about our next meeting. What I can share is a sneak peek of her Mum's vintage veil and shoes, and I will be posting more bridal inspiration in the coming months so if you are also a bride-to-be check back soon...

Neighbourhood Bay...

Yesterday I had the pleasure of Baileysitting all day! We had such a lovely time. I arrived at Miss R and Mr R's flat just after 10am after only 3 and a half hours sleep {more about that later} to find Mr B in his usual playful mood. I grabbed his lead, a bag of treats and some toilet bags and off we went to our local dog friendly park Tiverton for some running around with other dogs. I was a little nervous about going as this was my first time letting Bailey off his lead on my own and I was terrified I would somehow lose him and have to explain to my sis and mobro that whilst they had being running Miss R's stall at Bust market in Bethnal Green I had lost their beloved puppy. I obviously hadn't fully appreciated the power of a vigorous shake of the treat bag to get his attention! After much running around and frolicking with other dogs, in particular a gorgeous Labradoodle we walked home and enjoyed a midday/afternoon nap on the sofa. It was bliss. I then got busy in the kitchen cooking up a belated Thanksgiving dinner for Miss R and Mr R's return after a very busy day at the market. Whilst I cooked up a storm Bay slept some more every now and again getting up to check out what was going down on their street, and we thought Daddy Bijoux was a bit of a nosey neighbour!

From S/S 2011 studded sole masculine flats {still gutted I don't own} and this seasons baroque swirl strappy stiletto boots {wow those insteps look severe}, come a futuristic winged cross strap door stopper heeled bootie. Where do I start?...The printed reptile skin in turquoise, flame or off white complete with black zebra, dalmatian dots or leopard spot print. The chunky black leather cross front straps. The optical illusionist black heels that seem to taper to a point impossible to balance on, grounded by a contrast color door stop-esque heel. These shoes like the silhouette pushing collection take footwear into a new frontier.

Yesterday I enjoyed a day off work with Mummy Bijoux in east London, we wandered around the vintage shops on and off of Brick Lane, had lunch and then wandered some more around the antiques market at Spitalfields {http://www.oldspitalfieldsmarket.com/antique-market.html}. I purchased a very Meadham Kirchhoff-esque {S/S 2011 + A/W 2010-11} black lace trimmed billowy fluoro peach, midi length vintage nightie for £12 from Beyond Retro {http://www.beyondretro.com/} on Cheshire Street. Result. I always make a bee-line for the vintage nighties, petticoat slips and chemises when I am there, the colors are like macaroon pastels mixed with the odd fluoro shade and black. I am going to wear said nightie with an old oversized sweatshirt, black opaques {it's pretty see-through) or ankle socks {if I am feeling more daring} and chunky block heels.

...also thought this headless/legless pair of skeletons complete with top hat were so funny in the antiques market and we were also at a stall when Tracey Emin strolled up and bought a rather large ceramic frog for £8, I wonder if it will turn up in her next piece of work? I was really excited about spotting her as I am a big fan of her work.

Black Bow Bunchies...

After developing a major hair crush on the models up do's at Topshop Unique's A/W '11 show way back in February I have been waiting for my hair to grow long enough to try out this look. The ultra high bunchies with velvet ribbon bows looked so cute - part minnie mouse, part double ballerina bun. The new top knot perhaps? I think this look is a great way to update/standout from the ubiquitous messy top knot that seems to be every girls go to up style if they have lots of long hair/are having a bad hair day/just want to look east London cool {delete where applicable}. I don't think my version is quite there yet, the buns need to be bigger and I could work on my centre parting skills - grow hair grow!

So here is a peak of what I am wearing from the Versace for H&M collection...think the cap will really come into it's own next Spring Summer with the massive team sports trend that will be everywhere. The trop-croc-palm-print mens shirt got it's debut at Miss R's dinner soiree on Monday night and the pleated leopard sunset skirt has already been worn twice dressed down with my love worn Ashish for Topshop 'Bonjour/Au Revoir' sweat. Now all I need is for lady luck to be on my side with the baroque print gold, black and white vintage Versace silk shirts I am watching on ebay and I will be a true Versacette. Or I would quite happily take one of these limited edition, solid Gianni-esque gold re-issued shirts {http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/184550} off of net-a-porter's hands. Just saying.

...and for all of you who can't get enough of the Versace vibes or couldn't get to a store to take part in last week's fashion scrum, the collabo continues with a Cruise collection going exclusively online in January 2012. Think fruity floral prints in blue lilac, candy pink and white, spaghetti straps, baby doll dresses, printed denim hot pants, white jeans with gold embroidered side seams, bikini's, ballet pumps and strappy sandals.
